Browsing through the steam programme for 2011, I noticed that Tornado's planned return to service in BR Brunswick green on 26th February has been 'cancelled - 60163 unavailable. Tour to be rescheduled on a new date'

March and April tours with 60163 have also been cancelled or postponed. The A1 Trust's website reveals the reasons: http://www.a1steam.com/index.php?op...tenance-update&catid=1:latest-news&Itemid=123

I was amongst those who hoped that a brand new locomotive would give her owners and supporters fewer furrows on their brows than the 50/60/70 year old locos which are still giving excellent service in between heartbreaking, backbreaking, bankbreaking episodes of maintenance, planned and otherwise. It seems there is no immunity from the above.

Here's hoping we'll soon see Tornado back doing what she does best, along with all her sisters going through similar travails.

    Happy 2011!

Peter, on a cold dark January night in Manchester
