Russian construction group Mostovik has announced its intentions to buy a set of tunnel boring machines (TBM) to start construction of a new metro system for the city of Omsk.

The company is in advanced talks to buy the LOVAT RME 241 TBM, which is currently in operation in Ontario, Canada.

The 750 tonne LOVAT TBM is expected to arrive in Russia in October after being shipped from Toronto where it is constructing the Toronto-York Spadina Subway Extension (TYSSE).

Alexander Yankov, president of Mostovik, said: “In the near future, we plan to visit Canada for a detailed examination and assessment of the technical condition of tunnel-complex.”

Once it arrives in Omsk, the TBM will start work on a 1.4 kilometre tunnel between two of the metro’s new stations, Crystal and Cathedral.
