A station construction contract worth almost $24 million has been awarded for Toronto’s new Union Pearson (Express) rail link.

Transport authority Metrolinx has announced that EllisDon Corporation will build the UP Express station and a new platform at Union Station.

The new 3 km line, which will connect Toronto Pearson International Airport with the city centre, is scheduled to open in time for the Pan/ParaPan American Games in summer 2015.

Kathy Haley, president of UP Express, said: “To have all the components of the project construction underway marks a significant milestone in the delivery of UP Express.

“We are less than two years away from launching the UP Express, which will transform the way Torontonians experience our city and the way the world experiences Toronto.”

As well as UP Express station, the project includes improvements to Bloor and Weston GO stations, an expansion of the Kitchener line and new rolling stock.
