The UK and China have signed a trade agreement designed to improve co-operation between rail sectors in the two countries.

Prime Minister David Cameron and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang signed the bilateral agreement in London on June 17.

China has already shown an interest in playing a part in the construction of HS2.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aims to foster better a better relationship with the UK in areas such as research, equipment supply and the delivery of major infrastructure projects.

As well as giving China more access to the UK market, the deal should open up more opportunities for British companies.

Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin said: “I can see great mutual benefit to be gained from increased co-operation between the UK and China on rail.

“The railways are a massive success story in both countries and we can boast world class expertise across the sector.”
