The main road system in Ukraine isn't much better, try traveling from przemysl, Poland to Lvov... Main road to the west.., so you think, most of it is no better than muddy footpaths with lorries ploughing circa 20mph along it. Taking a train isn't much faster... And I could write a book on my experiences if the border crossings..., unless you have $20 forget crossing in less than 2 hours.. But sit back and watch the cigarette smugglers on there communist motorbikes running the border every few minutes.

I have no idea how people will travel between Poland and Ukraine next year for the euros...

'Do not lean out of the window' reminds me of an enamel sign I saw at a railway station in the Ukraine a few years ago; "Forbidden to crawl under a carriage to the next track while dragging a suitcase.'
Unfortunately I did not take a picture of it (although I got some lovely other examples).
Is there anyone who did take a picture and could send it to me?

At first I thought what is the point of such a daft warning, until I saw it happpen myself. We were in a Dzherelo train on platform two, with another, very long train on platform one. People on platform one selling refreshments realised there was a train of tourists and potential customers, and they crawled under the first train with coke bottles and glasses on trays. Didn't spill a drop (or lose a leg :) ). Other countries, other values....

remionds one of the "do not clean soot off the windows" stickers...does any preserved railway actually continue this tradition? Would bring a wry smile to many an old trsainspotter I imagine
