UNIFE is hoping to strengthen links between Europe and Russia’s rail industries after signing a partnership agreement with UIRE, the Russian Union of Industries of Railway Equipment.

The MoU was signed by Henri Poupart-Lafarge, president of Alstom Transportation and chairman of UNIFE, and Valentin Gapanovich, senior vice-president of Russian Railways and president of UIRE.

UNIFE and UIRE are aiming to boost the development of new technology between the two countries and drive forward greater technical integration across the international rail industry.

The signing ceremony took place at Expo 1520 in Moscow. Throughout the show there have been numerous examples of projects being delivered by European companies alongside Russian partners.

Alstom has been displaying its 2ES5 locomotive, which has been developed with Transmashholding (TMH), while Siemens and Russian Machines have unveiled a mockup of a next generation Moscow Metro train.

Henri Poupart-Lafarge said: “Russia is an important and growing market for the European rail industry.

“Collaboration between the Russian and European rail industries is crucial at a time when high-capacity, sustainable transportation is in such high demand.”
