Last Sunday was the Amersham & District Motorbus Society's 6th annual Uxbridge bus running day. Many former London types were in action and my photos from the event can be found here http://paulgildersleve.smugmug.com/...-2013/30570567_3kfsgK#!i=2638371129&k=KxRN7JH

    Regards,

    Hello Paul,

A nice set of shots there, looks like you certainly had an enjoyable day.

I have admit that I'm rather blase when it comes to the bus running day, ie done it and see it every year, I know the guys like to put on a show for the public but what surprises me is that they don't advertise it more widely, if they were able to pick up at Ruislip Station with the service to the Lido, they would make an absolute killing in the donations bucket, seeing as how its a free service and all the modern service buses H13 & 331 heading to the Lido are rammed, especially on a day like last Sunday!

    Thanks for your comments.
I didn't actually see a single donation bucket on any bus. I don't know if that's part of the deal or what it is. I suppose advertising costs effort if not time and money and it's often just a few people who organise events I would imagine.
Definitely a good day out though.

    Cheers,

    Paul

I have a feeling they aren't allowed to advertise, so they can't be accused of taking custom from the normal bus services. Most of the running days are well attended anyway. I thought about going to Uxbridge on Sunday, and even bought a programme in advance, but with the hot weather and tendency for some of the other passengers to be rather pungent even on cold days, I have it a miss.

I'm surprised they don't have donation buckets,I'm sure I've seen them years ago, the only thing they do do is sell the timetable booklet to help raise funds!

Still, you and a lot of others had a fun day out, and that's what its all about. :)

    Ah the good old days.
I'm afraid these days hmg's traffic commissioner considers that 'plying for hire'. Even in the 'olden' days a traffic examiner coming along for a ride suggested that I might like to put a cloth in the used ticket box so that he could not hear money being collected.

That little Guy is a handsome bit of kit. Very nice set of photographs, many thanks. It's 30 years since I drove a bus or coach, at the time I never wanted to drive another EVER, but I'd love to have a day driving a few of those. Memories, us old lads thrive on em.:)
