Very interesting post on Facebook on German Pacific 01-202 and the overhaul of its boiler at Meinigen

for those who can't access facebook the translated text is as follows

    Update from the steam locomotive,
    Visit and meeting from
    Tuesday 20th May 2025:
The pleasant thing ahead: the boiler is finally working again! The boiler walls have been largely updated, so that the boiler can be final measured and the new floor ring can finally and soon be extra ordered and manufactured. The first of over 400 new standing bolts are also welded in.
There was also another one, with the now repaired Nietzange provided. This also took place yesterday morning.
Unfortunately, we were saddened to note that, although we provided the DLW in February 2025, a cutting drawing with instructions for the operation of the pliers, the operation is not known, nor has oil been filled into the hydraulics or the operation is performed correctly.
Despite these deficiencies, however, through repeated "manual manipulation of the attitude" some low results were achieved to satisfaction. When riveting the 220 rivets on the floor ring, all of which must be executed correctly, it is not possible.
An improvement will be immediately achieved, if you read the manual in the DLW soon, filling the necessary hydraulic oil and carrying out further trials under our instruction.
The actual meeting was once again sobering. Some of those responsible were only present temporarily or not at all. Therefore, questions could not be answered again.
A small crack in the right scaffolding side wall, between a wash hatch hole and a scaffolding hole, already identified and addressed in February 2025, has not been repaired in the past three months. However, in this area, old sewage holes that were damaged during expansion have already been welded and drilled for free. At this point, a piece of sheet metal must now be cut out and a patch welded in, the holes will be drilled again.
To do that, they first want to calculate a "night-time offer" and present us. When Is This Coming...? Nobody dares to make a prediction.
We have expressed our opinion about it in a very clear manner.
You can't decide even for a period of time when the scaffolding (see above) and subsequent ordering the floor ring, and at least five more (!!) ) Taking weeks off.
At the moment, SUMMER VACATION is in place anyway, the completion of the boiler, which was promised a few weeks ago, until the steam locomotive days in September 2025, is already history again.
Further, in the afternoon, during the second course into the boiler smithy, we found massive damage to the forehead sheet and the smoke chamber door frame on the smoke chamber forehead. No one was already present in the kesselschmiede, the responsible persons present knew nothing about the damage, let alone how it happened.
The front, including the door frame, is compressed by more than 20 mm in the lower area. A chimney lock bar "looks" instead of horizontally slanted upwards.
The forehead, which was completely renewed in 2013 now has to be detached again and remade.
A nice speech of these abuses on our part definitely won't do anything.

There's been another update this morning.

"Important supplement to the contribution "News from the Steam Locomotive" from 21. May 2025:

We are still convinced that "DAS DAMPFLOKWERK" is able to repair our boiler, as well as other boilers, purposefully and with appealing quality.

With our boiler, DLW would have, had it targeted the work and, according to numerous meetings and meetings, completed it in a timely manner, could have done the best advertising in its own cause.

We have explained this situation clearly and once again to those responsible, once again very few and not fully present.

We (and other associations with large steam locomotives) want to preserve this and depend on DAS DAMPFLOKWERK, in the future extensive repairs should be carried out in a useful time!

With the re-shown behavior of some responsible persons, however, the goal cannot be reached within a useful time (for all).

However, these responsible persons must now learn immediately, accept and accept the required by them and offered by us and organize assistance by a well-known and recognized specialist in locomotive and boiler construction.

And for once in all clarity:
A majority of the craftsmen of all departments in the DLW work with enthusiasm, motivation and, the young men of the staff, with increasing experience also in riveting, consciously about locomotives and boilers, so let them be.

The serious time delays occurred not in the workshop, but in the office.

It took several months to create offers or answer simpler but compelling questions about the renovation concept without justification.

We don't want a "war" with the DLW, not even a legal battle.

We are just waiting and demanding the timely, prompt completion of the orders that the factory has long offered and each of us delivered immediately (including days or even hours)!

And as soon as this finally begins, there are also constantly positive reports appearing here, which are then "advertising in its own case" for the DLW.

Then it will no longer be necessary for the management to work within a few hours to delete "image damaging reports on FB".

We are now very eagerly waiting whether the next steps agreed together the day before yesterday will also be actually implemented at the latest by the agreed date and will be communicated to us.

This is the first step in the right direction!

    For comments:
We look forward to your comments, whether you agree or questionable.

Please, however, choose your words factual and not hurtful, also the employees of the DLW are human and read here as well.

We depend on the DLW for prosperity and destruction and want our locomotive to be worked with joy.

    Club Pacific 01 202
    The Board of Directors"

It's been ongoing for over two years now and they're still finding problems with the boiler.

These people are very unhappy with Meiningen :(

    The translation could be better...

Facebook comments on the video say DLW is not what it was, ' it's digging its own grave' (sic). Tragic.

It also missed out this line:

During this time work on the loco and boiler ceased, despite the contractual payment made by us on time, in a six figure amount.

Apparently 6 months was the estimate for the work, and it's now been 3 years, despite no new problems found on the job. People in the office are blamed, not those on the factory floor.
Can @5944 post the originalFacebook text ? (I'm not on Facebook...)

Annoyingly the app automatically translates the text, hopefully I've managed to copy this correctly.

Wichtige Ergänzung zum Beitrag "Aktuelles aus dem Dampflokwerk" vom 21. Mai 2025:

    Thank you!

I read a lot of frustration with the management; the people on the shop floor are keen, and would work, if they were allowed. The establishment of estimates, and answering the related queries was a very drawn out affair, and during a recent visit the management was only partially available, and some questions could not be answered.

The latest news is that new steps forward were agreed the day before yesterday, and the club is eager to see if these are indeed realised in the time period agreed.

Comments on Facebook are encouraged, but readers are asked to keep them measured, as employees of DLW are only human and also consult Facebook. (the comments I saw were pretty severe). The club points out that they themselves are dependent on the wellbeing of the DLW, and all they want is that work continues on their locomotive with engagement.

I wonder what the experience is of other (UK) customers of DLW?
