Victorian Swanage - A trip through time [17 - 23 May]

    This year the Swanage Railway is celebrating 125 years since the branch was opened. We've proposed that the Drummond Class M7 tank will be in service all week [Edwardian built but a Victorian design]. Also we're hiring the Beattie Well Tank from Buckinghamshire Railway Centre, Quainton to add a little bit of Victorian authenticity. The following is an abbreviated list:
    Latest Schedule of Events [as at 23/4/2010]
    18th May - Film "The First Great Train Robbery" at Black Swan, High Street (19:30).
    19th May - Durlston Country Park Victorian Trail (11:00). Victorian style Tennis, Bowls and Putting at Beach Gardens (18:00)
    20th May - Re-enactment of First Train from Swanage using Beattie Well Tank loco (11:30). Local author Brian Jackson signing copies of his new book "Swanage - 125 years of Railways".
    21st May - Victorian Cricket Match "Swanage -v- Corfe Castle" at Swanage Cricket Club, Days Park, off Ulwell Road (18:00). Purbeck Railway Circle - Talk by Brian Jackson - at Catholic Hall, Rempstone Road. (19:00). Wessex Belle Dining Train from Swanage Station - must pre-book [Victorian Menu] (19:30)
    22nd May - Beattie Well Tank being used on special services. Local author Brian Jackson signing copies of his new book "Swanage - 125 years of Railways" (11:30). Victorian Tea & Coffee Afternoon at Catholic Hall (14:00 - 17:00). Hopefully - Events at Sandpit Field with the Ringwood Brewery Bar Marquee (all day).
    23rd May - Beattie Well Tank being used on special services. Local author Brian Jackson signing copies of his new book "Swanage - 125 years of Railways" (11:30). Football match [Swanage -v- Corfe Castle] at Swanage Football Club (14:30).
    Week Long Events (17 - 23 May)
    Drummond Class M7 loco on scheduled services during the week.
    Hopefully a Victorian Street Market in Commercial Road.
    Corfe Model Village - Then & Now Display. Staff in costume. FREE entry to visitors dressed in costume.
    Rudesheim Wine Stall, with wine from the Victoria Vinyard [once owned by Queen Victoria] in Hochheim, in the Station Booking Hall.
    Swanage Pier - Victorian Seaside Display.
    Swanage Heritage Centre - Victorian Town Trails
    Durlston Country Park - Victorian Exhibition
    National Trust Corfe Castle - Victorian Trail
    22nd/23rd May only - Victorian Organ Grinders at various locations around Swanage. Also hope to have a "Display of Milk Floats Through the Ages" at Corfe Castle Station.
