As the real things mark the end of a series of milestone digs beneath London, Bechtel has worked with Lego experts to built its own miniature tunnel boring machines (TBMs).

The working two-meter long replica of a Crossrail TBM has been built to coincide with the release of the Lego Movie and Bechtel’s sponsorship of the FIRST Lego League competition.

Peter Dawson, president of Bechtel’s global civil infrastructure business, said: “Building for the future is what we do every day. An important part of that is building tomorrow’s engineers – inspiring and engaging young people by making science and technology fun.

“Tunnel boring machines are a symbol of the engineering mega-projects that Bechtel is delivering around the world. Constructing this iconic machine from Lego demonstrates that science and technology can be the building blocks for rewarding engineering careers.”
