Just to let you know that tomorrow (Sat May 22) is the start of the Service 400 'Exmoor Explorer' season. It's a 2 hour trip around part of Exmoor, starting from Minehead (opposite the WSR station). The weather's going to be fantastic tomorrow so the views of the moor and over the Bristol Channel will be superb. Not only that, you get to ride on a 1957 Bristol Lodekka bus!

The journey is free if you have a bus pass or £7.50 (adult), £3.50 (child). Yours truly will be the conductor tomorrow and we depart at 11:00 and at 14:15.

We run every weekend from now until the end of September and Tuesdays/Thursdays during the school summer holidays too. More info here: http://www.quantockmotorservices.co.uk/scheduled-services/

  2. Is this the one that goes down Porlock Hill, John? My girls did that one a few years ago and still talk about the "interesting" experience of sitting in the front seats on the top deck of the open top bus and suddenly facing Australia :) Thoroughly recommended. Even by girls.

Yes Steve, that's the one. Going down Porlock Hill's 4-in-1 gradient is a bit scary if you're sitting where your girls sat but our buses are always up to the task, as are the drivers. But I do keep a spare ship's anchor stowed under the stairs, just in case*. We don't ask our Lodekkas to go UP the hill though, they wouldn't make it!

    John.

    *Only joking, of course!

You're right of course, Mr TBird. One in Four. How silly of me!

No I don't think CHG 545 has been sold yet, although I'm seeing the owner tomorrow and will ask him.

I can confirm that CHG 545 has been sold and is now running in the Carlisle area. There are others still for sale - interested?

Sorry, a little confusion here methinks. CHG 545 is one of 8 PS1/14s to survive from the Burnley Colne & Nelson fleet. Stephen Morris did own it (after you did) but sold it to an individual in Bradford in 2007. Then Stephen bought another from the same batch (CHG 541) a few years ago and it's this one that's he's recently sold on to an owner in Yorkshire. My reference to Carlisle/Cumbria seems to have been a red herring!

I don't know who owns CHG 545 now, but scheduled to be in use at Chatswortth this coming Sunday.
