VR launches tender for double-deck carriages

    Finnish rail operator VR has issued an invitation to tender for new double-deck passenger rolling stock.

    VR is looking to procure 46 new passenger cars, with an option for an additional 185, to replace ageing stock, including the sleeper cars that operate between Helsinki-Kolari.

    The operator is investing €2 billion on new rolling stock. VR has said the new carriages will be purchased without government funding.
