I originally inquired after spotting the water crane at Battersby in a video of the diesel convoy bound or the Moors Diesel Gala there, but doesn't seem to have generated much interest, The question was, how many other water cranes survive on the national network - it has been suggested that there are two at Sellafield, are there any others?

There was one just North of Church Stretton station (by the road bridge) a few years ago, is it still there?

I think this went to Toddington a year or two ago.

Last visit to Aberystwyth though there was still one GW one there thought to have been put back/restored for the 1980's summer steam but now no longer connected.

This one was used to water 7819 on a tour in 1991 but wasn't used for 45047 in 2004.

............... so it would appear that there are now fewer water cranes on the network than there are turntables!

No Great suprise, DMU End cars and HST power cars often need turning and there isn't always a triangle availible.
