A groundwater cooling system is to be tested at Victoria station in an effort to combat soaring temperatures on the Tube over the summer months.

For the past year, a London Underground team has attempted to come up with some engineering solutions to the problem. In the deepest tunnels, temperatures regularly top 30C (86F) in summer.

The trial at Victoria this summer aims to make it cooler for passengers on platforms - but new air-cooled trains are still some years off.

The trial will see groundwater which was being pumped out of the station, being pushed through a network of pipes.
