Just received the very disappointing news that the Plandampf team have dropped plans for this year's event and are saying farewell to Plandampfs in Germany. They plan to concentrate their activities outside Germany.

I did two and they were superb events. They were so positive initially with what they planned to do and which locos they would be using that I can but surmise that things have gone awry during negotiations with DB and others. Great, great shame. Looks like Poland, Czech Republic, Bosnia and Serbia will be their sphere of operations in future.

Pity, but not really surprising with the way they've been messed around by DB, and the bad luck they've had with locos. I've done 4; 2 in Zeitz, 2 in Werratal. Sad to see them end, guess I'll have to get interested in Bosnian/Serbian/Czech/wherever steam now!

Beware of steam in Bosnia and Serbia. A friend went last year and achieved little of what was planned due to all manner of nonsense, not least locos barely able to move themselves let alone pull a train. Hopefully things will have improved by the time Henry and Co. visit in the autumn. €1500 excluding flights, accommodation, hire car etc. will make it an expensive week though.

Should have added that a "free" Plandampf in Rheinland-Pfalz is being planned for 2014. Based on Neustadt and der Weinstrasse as per 2005.

I saw that one this afternoon, I think I'll give it a miss at that price! I'm interested in the Czech/Polish one at the beginning of October, but depends on price. Thanks for the info about Rheinland-Pfalz in 2014. Plenty of time to save up!

I'm led to believe that the 2014 event will be underwritten by local government in the same was as the 2005 event was. If so this could mean being able to travel on the trains for the price of a normal ticket. We had a whole day of Pacific haulage on a group area day ranger ticket. It cost around £30 for 5 of us. :)

Excellent! Just been looking at Plandampf including some of your snaps. Looks good, seems some of the semaphores are still about too.
