The prospect of two steam hauled specials departing from Bristol Temple Meads within twenty minutes of each other was too good to miss. The first train was the Royal Duchy, hauled by ex-SR Bulleid Battle of Britain class 4-6-2 no. 34067 Tangmere, seen at the level crossing in Hewish. This was soon followed by the Torbay Express, headed by ex-LNER A4 class 4-6-2 no. 4464 Bittern.
