Could be me and my wife you are talking about, except in our case it is how would the Swanage to Wareham service stack up against a free bus pass and now only £10 of Tesco vouchers to get a Senior Railcard. It is of course an issue that any network connected heritage line needs to crack.

Having spent yesterday on the railway (from Yorkshire)for D7018 I saw no mention anywhere of the track appeal .In comparison when NYMR had it bridge and wheel appeal a few years ago you couldn't escape the rattled bucket under your nose on every trip. One was excessive ,the other not enough.

Part of the reason might be that I, and a number of others, including the industry newspaper ‘Railnews’ have repeatedly tried to explain reality to MRLG but they don’t want to listen. Their unfocused fantasies are a distraction.

I know, and their progress is not very noticeable. But hostility often has a habit of bouncing back. I believe that it has and it could be a reason for some of the reticence to support the line.

When patient, private, painstaking, professional advice and assistance is rebuffed, in favour of fantasy, what more can be done?

I visited yesterday with 4 rakes out (D7018 covering the DMU diagram), of 3,5,6,7 coaches. At Minehead I could see the following coaches not in use -

BG (which is nearing service) on shed
a BSO (in crimson/cream) on shed
2 TSO (1 in crimson/cream), both in the bay siding
    SK in the bay siding

Anybody know if these carriages are available for traffic at all? I'm assuming the BSO is as the BSK has only just re-entered.

Were some of the trains overcrowded?

I ended up doing a Jeremy on one of the Hymek runs.
It would have been nice to have had a 4th carriage.

Another 'holier than thou' post. This situation is partly of your own making. A lot of us were very active with (quote) 'our sleeves rolled up and putting our money where our mouths were' before being ridiculed in the rush for the Association to take over volunteer recruitment and management earlier this year. Several derisory personal emails were highly critical of the volunteer system and so many others 'knew better'. In 2018 I did make contributions to the railway totalling £1,600, of which two were personally acknowledged by your fellow Trustee, Robin, who occasionally also takes the 'holier than thou' approach.

I have now retired from all my part-time paid roles and have time available. I am therefore making this public offer of my services once again to the West Somerset Railway based on almost 25 years of volunteer recruitment and management in various organisations. There would be a need for a full and frank discussion with all concerned to establish a basis. Over to you...….

One thing that would help in clarity to everyone is an answer to the question - 'How many new volunteers have been recruited via the WSRA since it took over responsibility earlier this year.

Trains going from Waterloo to Guildford used to pass through six "W"s in a row - Walton-on-Thames, Weybridge, West Weybridge, West Byfleet, Woking and Worplesdon before West Weybridge was re-named Byfleet & New Haw. My late lamented local line the Cuckoo Line, had three "fields" in a row (Rotherfield, Mayfield, Heathfield) and then four consecutive "Hs"s (Heathfield Horam, Hellingly and Hailsham) and would have had a fifth (Hampden Park) had not Polegate been in the way.
    Sorry for thread drift!

In London you can do ten of the same letter in a row, but you have to be careful how you phrase the claim to avoid being misleading.
