And the narrow gauge line. I have been surprised how many NG Industrial lines existed

I said dozens of pages - not the last two, but I cannot bear to go back even two pages. The posts which followed mine should demonstrate adequately what I have said.

Attention keyboard warriors.... you are all very good at writing about the railway. I now have to assemble the next WSR journal and I would very much welcome your contributions. This issue is always a difficult one to fill as no trains are running....
Write me an article about the railway...all contributions are valued and considered. What did you do last season...what are you doing next. What knowledge to you have..... Email me at journal@wsra.org.uk

As someone who's pointed out how poorly certain posts ad this thread reflects on the railway here before, I see nothing objectionable in the post you quoted. Looks like you're just trying to find an argument any which way you can to me.
Although I'm surprised a winter issue is trickier for articles @ikcdab ! I'd have thought lots of winter works to report on, for many departments winter is the time of year when most stuff is done on the GWSR; P'way, C+W, station redecorating etc.

Those of us working hard to move our Railway forward (with all the difficulties that entails) do find ridiculous posts like this wearing and, apparently, deliberately destructive. I can't understand why you would do that, and so you can help by 'putting a sock in it'.

I'd be grateful for a few 'likes' to show if others view things in the same way.

Quite true, but that only prevents you from seeing his vile rubbish.

Far better that he goes back to wherever he came from.

    A potentially controversial question:

Why is it "vile rubbish" to call someone out when you think they have used derogatory language?

As an enthusiastic supporter of the West Somerset Railway, my considered opinion is that this individual’s contributions to this, and other, discussions on Nat Pres, amount to vile rubbish.

    Am I the only one?

I see that Robin has 64 likes for her last post. Is this a record? In any case it should tell Dan something.

As a enthusiast with no particular allegiance to the WSR but who wants all preserved lines to flourish and prosper, I too fail to understand the motive of said poster and his fanboy/alter ego Blackdown Boy in doing nothing but post negativity with no hint of anything constructive.

It is also noteable that Blackdown Boy also restricts who may view his profile.

Um, with respect, could I point out that the person who inspired the last 14 posts has by definition not been ignored, as some people suggested, and is quite possibly very happy with the reaction they've provoked? (and yes, I am aware of the irony of adding to that number).

If you really want to ignore a troll, then, difficult as it may be, really ignore them!

    Swords into plowshares

I'm a bit humbled by the response to my post #23046 above which, at 18:00 on 17.1.20 is heading for 80 'likes'.

John Adams famous quote is that 'Every problem is an opportunity in disguise'. Perhaps we have the opportunity to 'reset' this thread.

2019 was a pretty lumpy year for the West Somerset Railway and plainly not everything went well for everyone but we are still here and, speaking personally, I am looking forward to a better 2020. But Rome wasn't (re)built in a day.

There are those who think social media is a evil. Like all forms of communication, it can be good or bad depending on how you use it. Those who know me, know that I am a passionate communicator, advocate for the heritage railway movement and my own person, unafraid to speak out when I think it right. But it is also true that we only make progress as a group, and that requires tolerance, respect and collective responsibility, including sometimes accepting that the individual gives way to the collective (but without losing sight of the value of the individual).

It would be great to show to the skeptics that the value of social media outweighs its downsides.

Which isnt to say that a problem or a difficulty can't be raised. WSRA direct contact details are on the WSRA website.

Where do we start? Perhaps by getting the 2020 WSR events or visits in collective diaries? Who has a list?

    Onward!

    Robin
