Should be just double-heading the 1525 tomorrow (Monday), then working the 1105BL/1525MD all next week on its own.
Tony - I'm the rostered guard on the 1105/1525 tomorrow (Monday). If you are travelling on either, please come and find me and introduce yourself - especially if you're still thinking about volunteering!

I'd love to volunteer but meeting new people is difficult for me

  4. On this day - 28 March 1976 - the Minehead and Blue Anchor section was reopened, including Dunster Station.

In which case a public - facing role might not be suitable for you.

But I would suggest that you contact Mel Hillman @Mel Hillman to discuss whether there are other volunteering roles for which you might be suited.

Join the club then as I have the same problem in meeting/mixing with new people, and until you try it you will never know if it is any good for you. One of the best things I have ever done was deciding to help with the restoration/rebuild of the auto coach 169 and with just a few of us, it works well for me.

So give it a go and see if it any good for you, as there will be thing you will be able to do where you don't have to mix with a lot of people, and still do your part for the railway.

Steve, thanks for posting those....my memories of the WSR don't go back that far, but in 1982 my girlfriend (as was, now wife) moved to Taunton, and I remember peering over the bridge at BL and seeing Victor hissing away gently in the platform.....in later years we holidayed in Dunster Beach and enjoyed the sights and sounds of trains in Dunster station.

Not sure about the front end decorations but Ivo Peters captured a similar loco combination in 1959. The job was a return 21 bogie empty pigeon special from Templecombe hauled by 44559 and 53807. They ran tender to tender as far as Evercreech Junction where the 7F could be turned. That train must have made a marvelous sight sweeping over Charlton Road Viaduct at Shepton Mallet before it got stuck into the rest of the climb up to Masbury. And what unlikely power took over at Bath? - a pair of GW 2-6-0s! Before my time, but what interesting days to have been a railway enthusiast. Well done the WSR for keeping such memories alive.

Just email me on volunteers@wsrail.net and I can supply details of non-public facing roles.

Quickest way is to call 01643 704996 during office hours if nobody on here can tell you.

On Monday and Wednesday I rode the round trip from BL to MH and back behind 53808. The ride was lumpy at times and progress was generally very slow. One of the train staff suggested the problem was with the injectors. Any comments please? TIA

Are you sure? I was at the railway today and filmed 53808, 53809 and 4F 44422. There was no sign of 6960.
53808 was on the first train away from Bishops Lydeard and stormed up the gradient through Nethercott.
It was a gorgeous spring day with hardly a cloud in the sky. The trains looked fantastic with the beautiful Quantock scenery as a backdrop. <BJ>

1620 from MD was worked by 6960.

I was on the train as I had dropped a car off at Blue Anchor Bay garage and was using the train to get home. Ah, the joys of a long-service pass and residence by the line side! Useful for those of us with (some!) years to go before we get our bus pass...
