Times are now up at uksteam.info for the first WSSE on Sat 25 July, headed by 70000 Britannia (with no diesel). It is possible, but not yet certain, that Britannia will head right through to Minehead where it will be turned and serviced.

    Thanks for the update David.

The last time that the loco visited the WSR in March it ran in the guise of 70021 'Morning Star'. <BJ>

Have decided to put my faith in one of Jeremy Hosking's locomotives for a pure steam hauled trip on Saturday. This is one charter that 'ticks the boxes' as they say. A sensible route with outer London pick-ups, the opportunity for some fast running and a destination that may not be the Riviera of the south west but at least offers a pleasant enough stopover. There is, of course, also the lovely scenic heritage line to travel on. Count me in.

And you can attend the most contentious railway preservation society AGM of recent times while 70000 is turned and serviced! ;)

According to the loco roster on the unofficial WSR website, she will go as far as Bishops Lydeard and GWR 2-8-0 3850 will haul the train onwards to Minehead and back whilst Britannia will be turned at Norton Fitzwarren's triangle.

Yes Al quite agree. Must do one of these though my Brit mileage is getting a bit high. Also going to risk a Dalesman even if it means a 20 hour day and a long drive to Stevenage. Will all be in August though as at present we are ? enjoying a steam less and very hot south of France. It's been 33-37C every day and no rain of course. Sorry Al, drifted off thread.........

Amidst quite a lot of disappointment at trips cancelled plus a few loco hiccups and the regulation diesel to assist and turn, let's all hope that the RTC has a successful day tomorrow. That's not because I am travelling...:D.... but because you get two locos for the price of one plus whatever else is rostered on the WSR. The long suffering public and, to be fair, the tour operator all need a break.

The reason for the delay was the sleeper was blocking the platform until after 0815. 70000 going well so far.

Saw it through Burnham, working hard and looking great. Haven't got time to upload photos but I thought at first that it was an ECS working.

Absolutely flying up Savernake, past us at Crofton. Here's a black and white still from the video.

The passengers were carrying out their anti missile defences, ready for the WSR bit, get under the table, heads down, so it might have appeared so, :)

Why would need to do that? It's a really friendly railway, just because their supporters association has issues it doesn't make the whole railway hostile as you post insinuates.

The timings for the outward leg were updated to give a shorter water stop at Newbury Racecourse (09:43-09:58) but with an additional stop arranged for Frome (11:06-11:32). The timings after Frome were as normal. For some reason the charter stopped at Castle Cary for 12 mins.

The return is at present within a gnats whisker of the original timings. <BJ>
