What did you see most of in 2010 either on a preserved railway or out on the mainline? I spent most of 2010 photographing on the mainline so I caught a lot of Black 5s. 45407 and 45231 featured twice each in some of my better shots and 44871 appeared once. I saw 6201 twice on the S&C but I never seemed to be far away from another Black 5 hauled tour in 2010.

What I missed seeing were two big 'uns: 46115 and 6233. I had hoped to get both on the S&C but 46115 was out of traffic or on other duties when I was up north and 6233 never made it onto the roster when I was about.

Being based down in the south east most of my photting is done on the Bluebell. The loco I heavily photted in 2010 was the E4. Being a BR livery fan I was a bit unsure how I'd like the E4 in olive green compared to some of the superb shots I'd managed to get on the very last charter we had with the loco in BR lined black before overhaul. It's re-launch into traffic last January in glorious winter sun was brilliant and the olive green loco paired with the matching Maunsell set looked wonderful. We weren't so lucky with the weather back in November when we had a charter with her and the Maunsell carriages but some late evening sun saved the day and have to say as much as the loco looked great in lined black it equally looks stunning in SR olive green. The loco I missed out on big time last year was the Black 5 no.44932. We get so few mainliners down this part of the country and with Tangmere out the Black 5 did most of the deputising. Unfortunately when we did get that rare mainline steam down to the south east it was mid-week and I couldn't get time off work and when it did run on a Saturday on another occasion the loco ended up failing. Funny that I went all the way up to York with the missus to see two new Black 5 cops - 45428 & 44871 but the time one came down to near I live I kept continually missing it and still remains one I've yet to see.
