Whatever happened to Steamy Affairs !

Observing with interest, all the recent discussion about tour promoters, I was reminded of a promoter from the past, i.e. "Steamy Affairs". They arrived on the scene during the 90s I remember with the promise of offering something different.

The two guys that ran it usually wore Evening Suits, DJ, dicky bow etc, and this was the first time the conventional coach stewards were replaced by attractive, (usually young), ladies !

The "steamy affairs" experience was a recurring theme throughout the journey with "branded sales" such as "steamy affairs brew" bottled beer among the various items offered to customers.

Much of what they did seems to have been picked up recently by Steam Dreams, i.e. the use of tablecloths in standard, along with a generally upmarket feel to the journey that was designed to attract a wealthier customer I imagine.

If my memory serves me right, their tours were more expensive than anybody elses, even though the actual journey was basically the same. Very much a marketing led organisation from what I remember.

It would be interesting to hear from other members what memories they may have of SA, and if anyone knows, the reason why they decided to stop promoting railtours

 

Steamy Affairs were taken over by another company and then went bust owing money to their customers.
