Anyone know what's happened to A4 Nigel Gresley since Christmas? I beleive she's in the Shed at Grosmont, but when is her next day of Operation at the "Moors?" The Website does Say she's under Repair but for How long?

The only A4 currently carrying the Garter Blue livery is Mallard!

    George,

She is currently undergoing 'winter maintainence' at Grosmont and expected to be ready to run again mid - late April. As pointed out above, she is not actually painted 'Garter blue' but I knew what you meant!

    You can keep up to date with SNG here;

There is a problem, beyond the routine winter maintenance, which is centred on the middle engine.

Because of this the locomotive is going to need a period of running in before venturing onto the main line again and this will delay the re-certification for main line running.

All this means that the locomotive has been withdrawn from "The Coronation" train in May and "Bittern" is now scheduled to work the London-Edinburgh and Edinburgh-London legs with 61994 working the Edinburgh-Ayr tour on the middle day.

Thanks for the Updates what is the "Middle engine?" Is it her boiler or something?

No the boiler is the boiler. The middle engine is the centre cylinder and it's associated works (Valve Piston, con rod, little end Big end etc).

As to availability for the Moors gala, well we will all just have to wait and see!

I see sounds like a Major problem with the Centre cylinder then It's fingers crossed i guess whether she'll be running at the Steam Gala

Where did I say a major problem? There is some work to be done, which as has been said many times before, will be finished when its finished. The locomotive is fully expected to do a couple of Cathex runs 18th. June after running in and re-certifying

Why, if someone answers a question, do people on here always have to "talk up" the problem?

And you wonder why WCRC wont give out any details.

The work that is required is routine and has been done many times before. I am told that the loco has been withdrawn from its scheduled trips because there is a possibility that it might not be ready and it is felt that it is better to err on the side of caution rather than possibly disappoint.

    George,

You were given the answer that "There is a problem, beyond the routine winter maintenance, which is centred on the middle engine."
After the term "middle engine" being explained, you then wrote "I see sounds like a Major problem with the Centre cylinder then"

I don't think 'Oakfield' was being rude at all - merely pointing out that a "major problem" had not been mentioned. By changing his statement from "problem" to "major problem" you can set the grapevine on fire and your statement suddenly becomes fact - just look at the (now locked) thread on 61994 The Great Marquess. I would just take this as a bit of a warning to be careful about how you repeat things or rephrase them.

I'm sorry but he was abrupt abit I do have difficulty sometimes at not repeating what people have said. If Oakfield Wasn't being rude He was being very impatient and funny with me. You're right partly though thanks for the Tip I'll try to watch what i say to people.

    George,

It doesn't matter WHAT you write - it will always upset SOMEONE. Thats the nature of the Nat Pres beast. Personally, I didn't find anything wrong with your comments. Had there been then the MODERATORS would have removed it. Post on !

Is it possible to see locomotives in the workshops at Grosmont? I will be visting the NYMR at the end of this month and I would like to see 60007 while I am up there, working or otherwise!

    Regards,

    Dan

60007 is presently in the NELPG shed and I doubt that it will move until it is put back together (but, now I've said it I'm bound to be proved wrong!). As such, it is on display unless people are working on it or there are potential dangers/tripping hazards around, in which case the walkways will be closed off near to the entrance and you will only be able to see it at a distance. If there's anyone around, you can always ask to be taken to see it. Most people there won't bite!

there are steps up to a viewing platform in the workshops which has always been open when I've been there, the public walkways around the site is also interesting, engines can be seen coaling, shunting, when I was there couple of years ago 60007 was being worked on outside the shed took some photos.

Thank you both for the information :)

Last time I visited was during Easter 1993, and all the sheds were shut back then.
