A real shame that such a good engine is just 'resting'.

The return of Rood Ashton Hall to traffic might mean that there just isn't the work available atm for the number of mainline certified locos at Tyseley. Wait till the summer and the Shakespeares get going, then ask again if PH never turns out.
I bet that saltydog could tell you what's what, so long as it's not confidential/an owner's issue.

THIS IS NOT FACT!!! So please don't treat it as such but regarding the apparent lack of use that 4953 see's could it be as simple that Vintage Trains prefer to use their own locos as it is more cost effective to them (this is the case at some preserved lines)? My reasoning for this is that if you look at the VT fleet home owned engines compared to the privately owned ones they do seem to seen more use over the years as a rule. It would be nice (if this was the case) though to see 4953 working on a preserved line or two.
What I will say is though is that I am surprised that it doesn't see more use (preserved or main line). Considering the expense that JFK went to restoring 4953 I would of thought he would of been itching to see it working as much as possible. Maybe he's more restrained than me!!!

Seems fairly true to me, though VT don't actually NEED to hire Loco's with a Castle, Hall & 57XX availible, granted some loco's are hired for a bit of variety but are not required all the time, 4936 & 5029 only do a limited amount with VT too, but for whatever reason they find work elsewhere while 4953 seemingly doesn't.
