UNIQUE MINIATURE TRAIN COLLECTION IS KEPT INTACT AFTER SALE

What is considered to be the most unique collection of passenger carrying miniature steam and diesel locomotives anywhere in the world is to stay together after being sold to a buyer on the South Coast for an undisclosed sum.

The collection of eight locomotives - four steam and four diesel - have run along two, mile long tracks at Dobwalls Adventure Park, near Liskeard in Cornwall, carrying almost 7 million passengers between them over the past 35 years.

Now the replica locomotives, which have been sold at auction following the decision to diversify the existing Dobwalls Adventure Park site, will be kept together and heading for a new life in Dorset, where they will be once again, be carrying passengers of all ages.

The auction attracted interest from around the World, but according to Malcolm Southern of Dobwalls Adventure Park, he is delighted that the collection is being kept together in the UK where the public will once again being able to experience the sights and sounds of this unique collection.

“Clearly the collection has been in the family for an incredibly long time and it was extremely important to us that they went to the right home – which we feel they have,” said Malcolm.

Details of who has brought the collection and where they will be running cannot be currently disclosed but it is hoped that a full announcement on the new home for the collection will be made in a few weeks.

i doubt they will go to moors valley as moors valley is a narrow gauge prototypes miniature railway, not standard gauge prototypes

Added to which I doubt they'd get round the curves.

Only miniature railways in Dorset I can think of are the Poole Park Miniature Railway and the Luscombe Valley Railway - both the wrong gauges! (10.25" and 5" respectively). I assume they're opening a new line for them.

We shall just have to wait and see.....

Im glad this collection is remaining together, i have many happy memories of Dobwalls from when i was a young Flange Bandit with my parents on holiday. Great they are staying in the UK for future generations to enjoy.

Confirmation that the Dobwalls collection are NOT going to Moors Valley, even if my suggestion was only joking.

I believe that a new railway in the coast is being planned, I know the whereabouts but have been sworn to secrecy.

Best to wait for the next official press release, which will undoubtedly have more info.

I can also conferm the above there Not going to moors valley , but yes in dorset nr me one of them genral palmer looks to be going to abroad, I am welding a new boiler for this engine at the moment so the engine can be completed and then, removed from Dobwalls, the genral palmer loco was there first engine at dobwalls and malcolm was intending to keep it to re-open a smaller railway in the future , but is also now beeing sold once rebuilt, some of the engines are still in a shed at Dobwalls when i was in there the other day , i had all the machines from the workshop .

i dont think the BRIT valley railway are having them at west bay they have talked about having various gauge railways and i belive they have some good money behind them , not sure it would ever make it over to me on portland as there are two many houses and developments happening due to the 2012 games nr the old portland railway track bed..
