Month-long work on a scenic rail line in Cumbria has come to an end.
Normal service is set to resume on the Settle to Carlisle line from Saturday after Network Rail completed essential track repairs.

A revised train service and replacement buses were in operation while seven miles of line were re-laid and drainage and other maintenance work carried out.

Officials apologised for the disruption and said this would help secure the long-term future of the 74-mile route.

    'Vital injections'

Peter Strachan, Network Rail's route director, said: "We'd like to say a big thank you to passengers and freight customers for their understanding and patience whilst we undertook this vital work.

"The four-week project has been a big success, the engineering team has done a tremendous job and we now have a better railway as a result.

"But the massive investment in the route over the past four weeks is just part of the story as further work is planned for May and July.

"These vital injections will help to secure the long-term future of the route which, with the recent increases in traffic, has a bright future."
