Work is due to start on overhauling the first three platforms at London Bridge as part of the Thameslink programme.

Preparatory works are being carried out ahead of the closure of platforms 14, 15 and 16 at the end of this month.

Platforms 8 to 13 will be closed over the May Bank Holiday so that improvements can be made to allow them to cope with the additional services.

London Bridge is undergoing a major revamp under the £6 billion scheme, which has already transformed Farringdon and Blackfriars.

As well as a brand new concourse, the track arrangement at London Bridge will receive a complete facelift to allow it to handle significantly more trains per hour.

Where there are now six through platforms and nine terminating, the transformed London Bridge will feature the opposite.

According to Network Rail’s project timetable the first completed platform is due to open in spring 2014.
