Construction work has started on a new £3.4 million entrance at Fenchurch Street station.

The works, which are expected to take around six months, will see a new entrance and exit created on Cooper’s row, easing the congestion caused by the 46,000 peak-time passengers who use the station every day.

C2c managing director Julian Drury said the project would rid the station of its “cramped and crowded” reputation.

Richard Schofield, route managing director, Network Rail, said, “As Network Rail continues to invest in the future of the railway, it became apparent that busy Fenchurch Street station required some attention.

“Once complete, these improvements will create a better flow of traffic through the station, reducing commuter congestion at peak times which will allow passengers to enter and exit the station with greater ease.”
