Don't know if this is the right place, or if it should have gone in International Heritage Railways/Tramways, though Everything else Heritage seems most appropriate.

Today is the 35th anniversary of the disappearance and sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald on Lake Superior during an early November storm on the lake. The sinking has been one of the enduring mysteries of the great lakes as the early surveys of the wreck in the 1970's after the sinking were at best inconclusive into the cause.

Gordon Lightfoot, a canadian Folk singer immortalized the wreck in song in 1976 (and has recently changed the lyrics in live performances to reflect 35 years of investigations into what caused the sinking to remove the appearance of blaming the crew for the hatches coming open and causing the sinking).
