What happened to 88, being its last gala and all that, surely they can't wait to drag it out for two round trips solo each day!

Don't worry it'll probably be Thunderbird at Washford or Williton.
I expect most people come to galas for the visitors rather than the home fleet, as such Kinlet Hall will have been a fixture for quite a few months if the rumours are true that it's spending the summer on the WSR.

Not rumours at all, it's confirmed via the WSR.org website.

Also via the same site: 'It is also planned to feature SDJR 7F 2-8-0 no 88 on a special run on the afternoon of Sunday 5 October as this will be its last Gala before withdrawal ahead of heavy overhaul'

Good news about 4612. Also nice to see locomotives being renumbered.

With then number of guests, lets hope the WSR use 4160 sensibly, and not two solo round trips each day.

  10. Just received this request from John Simms at Minehead Station:
"With the changes of identity to 'resident' engines during the Autumn Steam Gala there’ll be a desire to include some pics of the alter egos in the souvenir booklet. Does anyone out there have pictures of:
    Large Prairie 4131
    2884 Class 3863
    4932 'Hatherton Hall'
    7909 'Heveningham Hall'

(even if shot using a Brownie 127 or Instamatic!)"
    Can anyone help?

    Steve

Afraid I have to disagree with you. This announcement has made me much less likely to visit.

Any chance of a 'Mega' train again?

Maybe spilt two 7 coach rakes into 5 coaches for the proceeding train and one of 9 coaches for the special run? Double headed small prairies one way and 4936 or 6960 the other?

Or shove the QB rake on a trip like with 6960 and then 92203 in 2012?

Surely you have enough photos of 4160,3850,6960,4936 on the WSR? Where do you stand on the 7828 'Norton' fence?

Do nt bother splitting the rakes, just stick two together, load 12 or 14 will be just fine.

How would they be able to though? The proceeding train at the MTW was a DMU which isn't an option at a steam event. Otherwise there is a two hour (maybe plus) gap and let's not get into that again.

I don't know the intricacies of the WSR timetable but i dont see a two hour wait at the end of the day as a problem. If you make sure you're on the last incoming train then it'll be fine.

Actually, I haven't. I don't get over as often as I would like.

As for 7828, my opinion for what it's worth is that I'd prefer the original name, but then it's not my decision. More to the point, it still looks and sounds a great engine, whatever name it's carrying.
