Is this a DB or WCRC operation, two sources i've seen seem to contradict each other on this point, curious what will roll up at Bescot, a 67 and genny van or tnt 47's.

6201 PRINCESS ELIZABETH with "THE CHRISTMAS THAMES DEE"

    Hello All,

I am planning to do a rail trip from Plymouth to Bescot to see and photograph LMS Pacific 6201 PRINCESS ELIZABETH on this tour. I understand she takes over at Bescot, to haul train on second leg to Chester, from the "Up & Down Goods Loop".

My question is, please can anyone tell me is this Goods Loop, North or South of Bescot Station and where would the best position be, at the station, for photographing this Pacific Locomotive as she leaves with this tour.

I am looking forward to seeing this Class of locomotive for the first time since my train-spotting days at Berkhampstead, Herts. A few years ago now!!!

Thank you in advance for any forth coming information.

    Best regards SteamHawk216.

Bescot station itself is no good for seeing. The loop is to the south of the station but 6201 will go through on the goods line not through the station.

That view is possible from the footbridge over the line to Walsall. Personally if your coming all that way then Bescot will be disappointing. Why not go a bit further to somewhere like Stafford or maybe Penkridge?

Good views on that line South of Wolverhampton are hard to come by it seems.

6201 PRINCESS ELIZABETH at Bescot. 191209.

    Hello Matt,

Thank you for your reply with local info, much appreciated. Should I get an image to equal yours in Feb.2007, minus the snow though, don't fancy the white stuff on Saturday, I shall be more than happy.

I am also planning Bescot as my location as I haver never seen or heard this Class of locomotive pulling away from a standstill. Also I am getting more & more interested in Modern Traction. This coming from a "big" kettle fan. Also thinking of an afternoon trip to Water Orton while I am in the Midlands.

    Cheers again Matt for reply.

    Regards SteamHawk216.

What platform will the special be arriving in at Crewe on the outward journey?

If anyone knows of any stunning locations near the Stafford area or slightly South I would be very appreciative to hear about them. Are there any interesting foot crossings anyone knows of?

    Kind Regards,

Penkridge station platform (upside) is probably your best bet south of Stafford.
North of Stafford then the overbridge at Great Bridgeford would be a good choice. the road that runs from Great Bridgeford to Norton Bridge offers good opportunities, though she may be slowing for the tortuous crossover for the Stone/Stoke line.

Expect it will be bl**dy cold!

I've been into Stoke today and there was only the lightest scattering last night, but the temp is already down to -3 and it's only 5.15pm.

Need a fresh layer if your hoping for any Snow further south in the Midlands, the iced over remnants from the other night isn't worth it.

Through Longport about 10 down, but had she been on time the it would have been a slow crawl behind a stopper.
Beeston still a few minutes down but going well. Video uploading at the moment. 15.00

Nice shot David, I waited at Tame Bridge for the LE arrival which was 45mins late but at least it had warmed up a couple of degrees to minus 4. :)
