I'm trying to establish whether or not 60016 Silver King appeared in Garter Blue with BRITISH RAILWAYS in full on the tender.

Having purchased what can only be described as a "reading copy" of Yeadon, I can see it photographed in Garter Blue as 60016 with "A-4 G'HEAD" on the buffer beam, but the angle is too oblique to see what's on the tender. Yeadon confirms it never ran as E16.

Anybody have any ideas? It's for a "neverwazza" Hornby-Dublo model.

Otherwise it's wartime black with N E on the tender for it!

According to BRdatabase, Silver King came out of Wartime Black to Garter Blue in May 1947. It ran until Oct 49, when it was repainted in BR Express Blue, and finally BR green from July 1952. It ran with the Thompson number 16 from Nov 46 until June 48, when it was renumbered 60016. It was allocated the number 582 in the earlier 1946 renumbering, but this number was never applied.

It ran with a corridor tender 5591 until June 1948, when it was given the non-corridor tender, No 5636, which is when it received its 60016 identity.

No info on the lettering on the corridor tender is given, although in the first 6 months of BR ownership, it was running in garter blue as No 16, before being renumbered as 60016, and still in garter blue until October 1949. It all depends on how quickly they decided to paint British Railways on the side, I suppose. Would it have been running until for 22 months as a BR loco until its October 49 repaint to BR Blue with LNER on the tender? Maybe not.

    (Just my thoughts)
