The Levisham relay has got to be a record achievement for a heritage railway. 1.2 miles of track totally relaid in a tad under six weeks and another, albeit smaller relay in conjunction with the flood alleviation scheme which also severed the line preventing anything being transferred from the PW depot at New Bridge to Levisham. I'm sure Ploughman can give better figures but I bet the team doing all this was generally not more than 6-8 people. The weather may not have been the worst but it has certainly not been sunshine! A hearty well-done to all those involved.

And we are not finished yet.
Another 14 length relay is due to start next week to join up last years work near the 8mp and this years Hunting Bridge site.

Staffing wise, the full time PW staff, Martyn, Peter, Darren and Mark, supported by the fitter Neal have bourne the brunt of the work and most of the credit must go them.
However just about daily there has been regular support from volunteers working midweek and all over the weekends boosted by additional staffing when required for specialist work such as Tamping and Regulating.
Other groups have also been in attendance especially the Wombles from Levisham who besides clear felling the vegetation along Levisham straight have also been involved with the relay work.
Elsewhere Ian Wallis and his team have been tree clearing around the Fen Bog area.

    Many Thanks to you all.

A big well done to all concerned - an incredible amount of work done over the "closed" season.

The new pointwork at Whitby was installed Saturday night/Sunday - currently locked out of use until Platform 2 is commissioned - currently planned for June. Enhanced service planned to start first full week in July.

Full update from Civil Engineer to follow.

The Whitby work is quite interesting in its own right. It will be great if they can get up to 5 trains per day later this year. Its also quite instructive that NR have so much confidence in NYMR that they are letting them Project manage this work.

I should imagine that the local council must be delighted that the railway has somewhat reinvigorated the town and with more to come.

That platform looks very narrow until they move the wall.

Platform will still be narrow but will comply with minimum width requirement of 2.0m
The wall is not moving by that much.
