We are going to this again this year and have ben trying to find out which way 31806 and 30053 are facing. Swanage Railway haven't answered my email and the person I talked to yesterday didn't know. Does anybody have any info?

Due to the position of the water crane at Swanage tender engines usually face North while tank engines usually face South.

    31806 will be facing Norden.

As for 30053, we could be persuaded either way, although my inclination would be to leave it the way it is; that way, when it passes the U (at 12:24 the U is on the freight when the M7 arrives at Swanage, and at 15:38 the M7 is on the freight and the U on the passenger set passing at Corfe) both locos are facing chimney first.

And people think these things are just thrown together...!
