I went to Weston Airshow at Weston-super-mare yesterday, and have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it, despite a few technical hiccoughs. For £7 to park all day and free entry, the line-up was pretty impressive.

It's a general airshow: a few warbirds, some 1950s fast jets, some aerobatics, some PR from various of the RAF and Army display teams.

    Highlights for me were:
    - The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Spitfire IIa: such a graceful aeroplane and quite unlike the more brutish and powerful later Spitfires
    - The B17G flying fortress "Sally B", which did a good display and close to the crowd (some of the aircraft seemed to display quite far out)
    - The three 1950s jets that closed the show: Canberra, Venom and Vulcan. I'd seen the Vulcan before flying in transit but not displaying, and the sound is incredible! The Canberra and Venom were new to me.

The aerobatics was also impressive, but essentially difficult to photograph - effectively what is impressive is the movement, not a static shot. But there was a staggering display by a Pitts Special, effectively hanging at times on its prop, and an entirely different - but still beautiful to watch - display by a Stampe, "the Belgian Ballerina", which made up in grace what it lacked in power. The Breitling wing walkers suffered the additional problem of being lost in their own smoke!

Anway, photos here: I'd recommend this to anyone next year if it runs again and the weather is good.
