60103 Flying Scotsman - York to Edinburgh 14/05/16 to York 17/05/16

Can't find a thread for this particular tour taking place this Saturday.

Flying Scotsman returning to Edinburgh for the 1st time in years, would be good to know the very last time the famous steam engine appeared at Waverley station.

Has anyone got timings for the outward journey.

I have found out that the Scotsman is due thru Newcastle at 5pm.

I am hoping to go to a couple of locations. And finishing at the Royal border bridge at Berwick Upon Tweed.

 

Timed for 60mph max - isn't 103 passed for 75?

 

I'm never sure how to interpret the speeds shown on RTT. For example I've seen ECS movements timed for something like 214mph, and I tend to take those with a pinch of salt.

I believe weights and perhaps speeds are artificially adjusted to generate a workable schedule given steam loco's inferior acceleration and braking characteristics because the system isn't set up to allow steam to be entered as motive power.

So I wouldn't take it that because RTT says 60 it's in any way a limit.

 

Yet Network Rail publishes this information on its website which is why RTT, which takes its data from NR feeds, is able to display the FULL details of passing times.

Hypocrisy or a case of the Left Hand not knowing what the Right Hand is doing ?

 

I think that's the sound of a stable door being slammed shut as the sounds of an escaping horse fade rapidly into the distance.

 

I'm very surprised and disappointed that the Mods have decided to act as unofficial censors for NR who seem to have abandoned there ridiculous blackout, the weekend run to Edinburgh is already on RTT. The times for this week's York - Newcastle trip were all over Facebook and other social media, so what's the point.
So if I can't post direct links where do the censors draw the line, is a post on here saying FS timings are now on RTT OK? Or what about something along the lines of those wartime coded radio messages ' RTT have what you want on the blinkered one'

 

It has to be said that the only people who seem to get really het-up about this are photters, but one must assume that they intend to use the said source of information wisely, so I don't see the problem with the status quo if timings are available there, but not in general circulation. It's when everyone else starts to swamp the trackside that the problem of trespass generally emerges, so restricting the information to limited channels is wise. If a vast swathe of Joe Public doesn't know where to find the timing details, then that's potentially several less instances of strawberry jam-related paperwork, a nice surprise when they do see it steam past, and more space on the legal side of the fence for those who do want to see it.

 

I used the term unofficial because I didn't think the request came with the equivelent of a D notice and as the great British public have a right and an obvious desire to see FS yes I would have ignored them. It's all so pointless, evidenced by the crowds who turned out to see it this week having got there information from mainstream social media.

 

I officially request that everybody on the forum stands up, balance on one leg and makes chicken sounds.

That's debatable too this year, judging by comments on other threads.

How long before they get a super injunction to ban the timings.. At least then your guarenteed to find them on Twitter and on US websites.

 

I was just trying to make the point that NRs reaction is ineffective and ludicrous. There was some very unpleasant violence against the Man United team bus and supporters at Upton Park the other day but I haven't heard the FA decree that West Ham can play all their remaining games but the fans won't be told when.

 

I thought you were referring to people on here when you mentioned "profit."
