Looks like a great day was had by all and looking from everyone's footage, Shap was assaulted in true 70013 fashion!! The Roaring Monster headboard was certainly fitting. Can't wait to see some footage from Oxenholme if there is any!!

    Excellent videos from all,
Mark that shot near the summit is worth the walk, and Ramsgreave is also a good location despite being in a cutting.
    Austin, 3 great clips...

Excellent day out on Board the CME and 70013. Cracking run from Crewe to Preston with the Roaring Monster topping 80mph between Wigan and Euxton. Approach to Shap severely impeded by temporary speed limit just south of Tebay. Shades of 1968 when the old boy made a standing start with no banker. Made for an authentic experience but I guess the fireman was less than pleased at the speed restriction just at that point. Took Shap at 23mph with a great soundtrack. Gained time from Shap to Carlisle by topping 83mph at one point.

Return over S&C was as brilliant and took Ais Gill well in its stride. No delays and a great run through East Lancashire back into Preston.

Congratulations to Crew for an excellent run and the RTC staff on board for looking after us so well.

    I suspect you may have a mis-calibrated speed measuring device. I could've sworn 70013 never went above 75mph ;-)

I think there may be a 3% error allowance in loco speedometers, hence the 77 with 6201 the other week:)

Thanks for your kind comments Ralph and Stuart. I must have been quite near you at Birkett Stuart, lovely shot you got despite the light not being brilliant. Does anyone know who the crew were yesterday? Excellent performance on Shap considering the speed restriction south of Tebay.

Thanks to every one who made yesterday's trip possible, being a week day there were a lot of surprised travelers on the platforms when we went through and as for SHAP the hair's on the back of my neck are still standing ( driver peter kirk know's how to handle a loco) thanks for the phot's and vidio's they were very good

I don't think a Loco and 2 support coaches really counts..

Not sure about that 83mph claim, my gps never recorded that, though agree with the earlier figure which was touched very briefly at that location, the satellites having a combined blip at that point! Great day out Friday, I am now very much a Brit fan, this was my first run behind one on the big railway. Was very suprised and delighted to find Standard class right at the front of the train departing Crewe and the terrific sound track started from there. Would love to see footage from Warrington as she tore through at 77mph, power on and whistle going -true 'show boating'! Grayrigg was superb, 60 mph through Oxenholme and topped at 40 mph comfortably at the loop. The speed restriction at Tebay didn't appear to be expected as she powered away from Grayrigg accelerating rapidly reaching 66mph before the TSR board was spotted. This restriction was left over from last Sunday when it caused my return Edinburgh train to be delayed by an hour at Penrith-nobody had informed Control that the line was clear and work completed... The recovery was ferocious, 70013 seemingly having plenty of steam available and she met Shap at 55mph. At this speed it was always going to be a slog but Ollie seemed totally in control with a minimum of 21.3mph at the top. A fast run down to Carlisle ensued with frequent braking to keep speed in check, I never had more than 79mph on this section and this was brief before brakes were applied.
Departure from Carlisle was on time and this time we were in coach 11, not that this meant much as it sounded as if Ollie was next door! A 30 mph slack through Kirkby Stephen lead to fears that it could be a long slog to Ais Gill, but the driver had other ideas, there was a significant rise in noise levels and the train accelerated to 46mph before settling down to low 40's with a minimum of 38mph at the top, a terrific effort.
The water stop was skipped at Cherry tree and we were a 15 mins early and held outside Preston for a while before being let in.
All in all a brilliant day out, 70013 seemed in total control of what may have been considered one coach too many for a class 7 on this route. Well done and thank you to all concerned.
