UP 4014

This just noticed -- UP will get Big Boy 4014 & restore it

This will bring a few crowds in.

 

According to wiki the plan also includes converting it to oil fired during the restoration. It'll be amazing if they can do this in the 3-5 year time period that they're hoping to.

Did the Denver Post Frontier train with UP844 a few weeks ago, Challenger UP3985 nine years ago on the same train, be nice to top it with a Big Boy in a few years time. Stood aside UP4005 in the Forney museum Denver on Wednesday (filling time before the flight home), the Wife's all for the trip already.

 

Think the appearance of UP 4014 on the steam scene will incite quite a few trips to go see the wilds of Wyoming ! ---' oh by the way dear we have to visit the steam loco in Cheyenne as were passing through '

"Per today's Trains Magazine's News Wire: citing the Southern California Chapter of the RLHS's September newsletter, in exchange for Big Boy 4014, the Chapter will receive a former Missouri Pacific SD40-2, former Rock Island bay window caboose no. 24568 (used by the steam crew until recently), "the proceeds of an excursion operated in Southern California with No. 4014 once it is restored" and two plaques will be attached to its tender acknowledging the Chapter's role in preserving 4014".
Info on the deal that was agreed to allow 4014 to go back to UP .

Grease sticks look a bit solid.

An air operated greaser is fairly common in any plant servicing bay and even on service vans.

 

Grease sticks are pretty robust , they need to be in order not to break , this is hard grease used for the main rods ,-- as regard air greaser, agree common on plant applications but wish we had one on Hudson 2860 as we use hand operated ones -- air would be a luxury , not in the budget at present ....
