At least all the moaners can stop whinging about the leak now! I'm sure they'll find something else to moan about though...

The end of on wooden bodied stock on the mainline had been on the cards since the horrendous Harrow and Wealdstone crash. Another incident at Barnes in 1955 occured before the BTC issued it's "30 Year Rule", which would have meant the entire...

One downside when considering any long extinct pre-grouping classes is the lack of any matching stock permissible for mainline use. The 'teak' 4TC caused enough froth, but could you imagine the reaction to a rake of (say) Caley liveried MKII's?

More or less ..... though I'd hardly hold Irish practices up as a paragon of integrated transport! The classic had to be the C&L at Dromod, where incoming coal traffic from the mines at Dereenavoggy (on the Arigna branch) had to be transshipped...

Bridport was the subject of a 2'-6" gauge scheme a few years back (by 'Thirty Inch Railways' who were also associated with one of the Glyn Valley proposals). After a few years of 'umming and aahing', it died a quiet death. IIRC, there was some...

I hate it when glitches produce double post too! I would point out that if forum rules meant every suggestion is to be restricted to fully itemised and costed plans, we wouldn't be left with much beyond the perennial livery froth! :(

I am looking forward to the Manning Wardle Gala in 2026 marking 100 years since they went out of business. Locos to include Charwelton, Warwickshire and Sir Berkeley

Last point first ..... I believe derogation from gauge legislation would be the least of the problems facing any modern BG proposal! I quite fancy the idea of a reopened Bridport line as a BG operation. At need, a third rail could provide SG...

But you then have to ask would the railway system have developed as it did given the additional costs associated with building in broad gauge? Given that so many preserved lines are those that were only just economically viable to build would...

I'm not too sure you could call it 'Europe' as such, but there was once an interesting rack railway on Madiera. http://www.visitmadeira.pt/en-gb/madeira/did-you-know-that/funchal-railway-line After closure, the now rail-less route provided an...

So no interest in the Broad Gauge then? Are Crewmania or Derbyitis rearing their heads? ;) A few candidates have occured, but I went for choices that aren't (AFAIK) currently in anyone's overhaul queue. Although I'm more a 'Southern' type,...
