    Not really. The weights were within plates riveted over a set number of spokes and then the lead-antimony weight poured in to a pre-determined weight. The number of spokes covered did not change to suit the amount of lead added.

    I don't know about market research but I was a volunteer platform bod over a 30 year timescale (not continuous due to family commitments) . They were always more popular than Mk1 stock and, when there was a choice, passengers of all varieties...

    I can second this. At my line, there's no complaint about mk1s, but loads of people who turn up and find the vintage stock absolutely love it. A number of times I've taken photos of people in Victorian four wheeled compartments. Never been asked...
