I’d normally reckon on 2500 gallons for a round trip with 8 coaches. It’s going to vary slightly depending on loco, condition and driver but it’s a reasonable estimate. Getting two trips in would be a risky decision with a 5000 gallon tender....

You mean adding a set of wheels doesn't fundamentally change the laws of physics? As we've already established that this is a P2/4, i.e. a new sub class, then perhaps a few other modifications might be permitted? No one would notice changing...

If anyone wants to see photos of the casting and machining of a monobloc for a P2, I suggest that they have a look at the book "Gorton Tank" by David Gosling. Yes, the monobloc cylinders for the P2s and V2s were made in Manchester, not Doncaster.
