I have always regarded my first job as a manager to ensure so far as is humanly possible that everyone goes home at the end of the day in the same state they arrived. I have had cause a few times to remind people that this is their #1 job too.

We allow Fenchurch (with 13” cylinders) 85 tons up our line, which finishes with about 1/2 mile of 1 in 55 (after about seven miles of on and off climbing mostly at 1 in 75). On test it did 95 tons, including restarting on the 1 in 55. Tom
