Interesting - Railway Herald (!) shows it as KX to York and return.

Sadly, it looks very likely that any rain will be showery and very scattered, with temperatures staying high (high 20s/low 30s) throughout. I can't see conditions changing much this whole summer, with weather patterns locked into the current...

Were the thick stems shown here cut back after the fire or before? It would seem a fundamental thing to prioritise the removal of vegetation around equipment such as this.

It appears that the application of bans/different colour levels is very far from consistent. So, much as I love main line steam, I cannot understand why any steam was allowed to run in any areas that have been so obviously very, very dry. IF...

Yes, and I still don't get the colour restriction system's use - if the current conditions don't warrant a black, then what does...?

This time, the steam wasn't the cause of the TL delay, though.

I wonder where the chap at the first coach window is now... We are fortunate that people like you took the trouble to record scenes like this so well.

[ATTACH] I don't think that would be acceptable, no!:) Lovely, evocative shot from 1967 - I have taken the liberty of doing an edit to remove the blue cast - hope you don't mind. My late father would have been around then, as he did quite a...

Indeed - although for one run I would love it if '28 could be allowed to be dirty and 'authentic'. Most 'normal' (and fare-paying!) passengers love its immaculate presentation, of course, and I suppose with the coaches used now, nothing can be...

Well, not THAT clever, really - just filling an empty slot is not rocket science, unless signallers these days are expected to be just automatons... I have heard no reports of air-con failure for the passengers, so that must be a relief....

I can't understand why the whole of central and south-eastern England isn't on 'black' at the moment. I flew in from Mallorca yesterday and the fields over a huge area of southern England were almost as bleached as when we left Spain! There...

One diesel would surely be enough 'insurance', no matter where it is positioned? I had thought that the diesel was supposed be behind the tender if providing planned traction support rather than just hotel power/shunting.
