    I suspect the days are gone where, as a working volunteer elsewhere, you could email in and request a footplate ride. When I asked they were most accommodating.

    Reminds me of the last time I was at the SVR. Nearly drowning while standing on "dry" land, and then drying out in a very comfortable Gresley! (I hasten to add the weather wasn't the SVR's fault!)

    The economics for the MHR one are rather different though as they have their own 'Thomas' based there AIUI.
