Galas anywhere are generally a success because: There is normally a more intensive service. Normally at least one visiting loco. People are prepared to travel for galas and often stay for more than a day. Most enthusiasts appear to not care if...

Well, I suspect the answer is probably fairly obvious, even if a little uncomfortable: that over a period of many years, they haven't put sufficient money into loco overhauls to keep up with a rolling programme of maintaining a stable fleet size....

A sensible decision I would think Andy. However if 25C is now seen as extreme I better get far more used to the sound of what I and the wife call "incoming" when 20066 is operating. May be a bit warm in your box though.

Not if it is black it will not. Hence why Tornado rushed back to Doncaster Sunday evening. No rain forecast down south before (or after) the weekend. RTC tour is 3 x 33's LSL have a range of diesel types that could possibly be used I guess, but...

Well booking is already at bookers risk for diesel substitution for fire risk, loco failure etc. Yes maybe it is hidden in the T &C's and could be made clearer, but in 2026 the experience of events on both the national network or the airlines...

Well the WSE is 2 x 33's I expect the DCE, if it runs, may be the same. I assume 2 x33's still need a 47 on the back for hotel power?

As I sort and scan the photos for my various steam loco memoirs books, I am reminded all too often that I should have spent more time using locations where I could not only capture steam loco action - but also the surrounding infrastructure. One...

I would not disagree on the steam vs diesel point, but I suggest there are now very few preserved railways that can call on a large steam fleet day in and day out. Add to that the complexity of having to have NR approved locos for the Whitby leg,...

All in all I’d say what a load of b**locks that article is! “The engine, Black Five No.44871, was being towed by a diesel locomotive – meaning its boiler did not need to be fired up for the 70-mile journey” - Well that’s incorrect. It needed to...

Nothing wrong with ashpan sprays, and they are a tool in the armoury of reducing line side fires - and also, importantly in financial and maintenance terms, reducing ashpan fires. It's worth remembering though that if you turn on an ashpan spray...
