A nearly another month gone by, lots going on as normal at Loughborough and Devon. On the chassis side we have fitted the sand boxes and 4 chutes to check alignment, the two valve spindles have had the 4 cast iron heads removed with work soon to...

Unfortunately, as has been mentioned previously, copper boxes are not really suitable for oil firing and both 2873 and 4965's boilers have copper boxes. If Tyseley really are considering converting 4965 to oil then it will be interesting to see...

IIRC the No.1 boiler from 7927 went on the Grange. There is/was another No.1 boiler at Tyseley from 2873 at the SDR which was intended for the abandoned Castle to Star project. I think that the cylinders from Maindy Hall which became Lady of...

That's how I remember it. One thing that does puzzle me is why some/most oil fired locos in the U.S. don't appear to have a 'brick' arch - surely lengthening the flame path would ensure better combustion and reduce the amount of dark smoke. Ray.

Pretty sure that 3985 used "Bunker C", which is a thick heavy oil often used by ships. It has high viscosity and high energy content, and it requires preheating (by steam) to flow properly. Again, pretty sure, to save time, 4014 acquired 3985's...
