Is such a proposal actually possible? As I understand it, the management control who can join them and can also deny agenda items if they consider them to be vexatious. Even if it was allowed, could the management defeat such a motion by using...

More to the point, there needs to be something positive offered. A vote of no confidence has very limited practical meaning, as the case studies you mention make clear.

I once went to Jorvik, taking kids - 30 odd years after it opened and had been promoted. I thought the base archaeology was probably good, but the experience was wholly inauthentic and left me utterly cold. Given NYMR's seeming corporate...

It can’t be run entirely by volunteers - no one seriously suggests that it could. The questions of a loss making business is why it needs so many staff and why it is struggling for volunteers. If what’s being said on here is remotely right,...

I try to avoid criticising people and if I fail, I apologise. The vast majority of those working on the NYMR are very pleasant people who you would be quite happy to know socially. What I am critical of is the way the Railway is being managed...

It’s tough because unfortunately infrastructure is extremely expensive, especially when you’re running big and heavy locos. Railways are changing with the times, unfortunately there are fewer and fewer trained and qualified people with first...

Whilst I’m pleased that the Jacobite is now up to 2 trains a day so that more people can enjoy the ride, I won’t be rushing up there to photograph the dog’s dinner of a rake that’s forming the afternoon train.

Ok, carriages. For me they need to be clean, and ‘look clean’ - ie no rips and tears etc; windows reasonably clean; opening toplights for sound; heating working in all carriages in winter; toilets working (on longer lines eg NYMR); tungsten...

I suspect that I too, as a regular critic of NYMR management, must bear the brunt of your thoughts. My excuse, if excuse I need, is that as a former volunteer across a 30 year timespan I saw first hand just how inept the senior management/CEO...

I think, the most important things to typical visitors of heritage lines (not enthusiasts) are: That information provided is accurate, up to date, and easily accessible. That facilities are suitable on site - catering, toilets, etc That the...

I think in your passion for heritage stock you over-estimate the public demand for it*. At any heritage railway, the majority of visitors will, quite frankly, not know whether what they are seeing is or is not authentic. A very large number of...

I think the more instructive piece of research might be “how many people in the UK are even aware of the existence of heritage railways?” I don’t think it is many. A few years ago (2020) Steam Illuminations on the Watercressline was national...

Haha, nice one!!! Was the usual exhaust collector fire, with unburnt oil, catching fire, the way they put them out in BR days was to stop, take the affected collector drums engine, to full throttle, to extinguish the flames. Water and...
