The process to repair or replace are different but there is a lot in common too - both were/are show stoppers to the operations of railways they are on. From an outsiders perspective the Worth Valley both identifed the problem earlier, before it...

I agree - but I think the point is about management, especially project management, rather than the fact of each involving bridges. KWVR and Spa Valley are to be commended for their quiet, efficient, and timely management of their projects so...

There’s a fundamental difference between the KWVR bridge and the NYMR’s problem. In that the latter is grade 2 listed and simply can’t be replaced. Not only that but any repairs have to not affect the external appearance. The two projects are...

Whilst there are doubtless things that can be cross-referred, there are massive differences caused by the technology. 1)You can build a girder bridge deck almost entirely in a factory, so the site time is completely different. 2)You don't need...

I think just in fuel terms, shunting is more costly than you might think. (That's a subjective view based on having done lots). Essentially, stopping and starting is more costly than running at an even speed. You also have to think about what...

Getting back to the Railway proper. The crane for the bridge work arrived and was set up at Grosmont yesterday. Also, all the scaffolding is in place. In view of the settled weather, here's hoping they can crack on without any interruptions.

I asked about the wisdom of using the Autocar, an excellent example of preservation of course, earlier in the thread. "The Autocar has very limited seating" let's look at what that implies. To anyone reading the website it says if you turn up...

Of course there are hundreds of such awards run by trade media and (having in a previous professional life been involved in running a few of them), I hate to break this to the delighted NYMR membership secretary, but they're really not worth the...

It's not a Stills boiler; its TTO 43654. Can't you read? ;) I note that, when Moors Line was first re-vamped a couple of years ago, the names of the paid editorial team that replaced volunteer editor John Hunt was proudly mentioned on the back...

My understanding from a recent conversation at the lineside is that something of that sort has already happened. Whatever the diagnosis and proposed rectification work, unless it is very straightforward, the loco can't really be spared from...

That’s X-rated stuff. If she was a horse she’d have been put out of her misery long since. Remind me just how much people paying to be part of this? I suppose at least for those in the Mk2s their ears are spared the agony.
