Do the WHR/FR load 250 to 300 passengers on their first train of the day? It's a different railway. The NYMR is not Tallyllyn either.

It will be difficult to assess the impact of the higher fares on ridership due to the steam ban, which is now almost eight weeks long. At least steam is now beginning to re-appear and this should provide a boost to takings.

The point here is not Gift Aid/no Gift Aid, but the combination of a) a further price rise into luxury day out territory and b) a shift in how Gift Aid works. It is a change from the 2024 pricing, where Gift Aid provided something of genuine...

If Gift Aid brings in £400k, that equates to around one carriage of passengers per day over the season. If 60 or so people are put off by the high fares each day, that equals all of the GA takings. Less passengers does mean less income. Even...

Is it correct to say the basis of a recent substantial grant was to increase passenger numbers? How does this square with taking fewer people for higher prices?

I think what tends to happen is that general problems get discussed with a specific line as exemplar. I think you’re right that the Moors is not particularly unusual. My impression is that actually things are brighter this year on the whole. I...

Let me start my reply by stating that I really want the NYMR to succeed, as I'm sure most of us on here do. Regardless of the Gift Aid issue, or other factors that contributed, the pricing change this year has created a lot of noise because of...

Tax law operates in its own universe, so I see little hope in that! The language used has been that of the “entire operation”, not “control”. I struggle with the interpretation, but tend to see that as being another example of where the nature...

The problem is you're seeing it as though suddenly everyone will be buying internal tickets rather than full line tickets - that's not the case. You've stated on a number of occasions that Whitby is the main destination, and nobody will refute...

Yes, I was just looking in a bit more detail. So some care is needed comparing figures from further back. Even so, just looking at the period after that structural change, there is a big change in staff costs as percentage of turnover between...
