  1. toplight liked RLinkinS's post in the thread P2 Locomotive Company and related matters.

For those that are interested in Caprotti valve gear (and have access to Facebook) The Steam Workshop posted a video a 7.25" gauge "Duke of Gloucester" chassis running on air at [MEDIA] . The loco was built by the late Dennis Evans.

It is totally off topic but the big difference between the Spitfire/A4 loco is access I have never ever flown in a Spitfire and not likely to (like most of the population) and nobody gets the chance unless they are a very experienced pilot or...

There is a video here of it on display in Canada presumably before it changed buildings. Seems they let the public walk through the corridor tender and also you could get underneath. Looks immaculate [MEDIA]

  4. toplight replied to the thread GWR Light and Dark Stone Paint.

If you look in this book about the GWR C and W works there is some pictures of the inside of the paint mill where the GWR paint was made and some details about it. The guy who wrote the book I know vaguely and he worked at the works in a senior...

  7. toplight replied to the thread Dominion of Canada and Potential Disposal Story/Rumour.

I think people are jumping the gun a bit with the Canadian A4. The steam railway article basically gives nothing concrete, just says they are having a review of their collection. It is like the NRM having a review of theirs and suddenly assuming...

  8. toplight liked flying scotsman123's post in the thread Dominion of Canada and Potential Disposal Story/Rumour.

Forgive my ingorance in this, but is this not going to be a drop in the ocean in the grand scheme of things? I've no idea how much it costs to de-asbestos a locomotive but for a Mk1 it only just gets into 5 figures. A significant sum of money for...

  9. toplight replied to the thread Tripadvisor Reviews.

I think the trip advisor reviews are very important. Whilst it wouldn't necessarily put me off for a preserved line, it definitely does for accommodation. (and I always check before I book). Even with preserved lines sometimes you wince at the...
