CDL is not the issue - if it was how come the Jacobite is operating diesel free on most days? The issue is train heat and air conditioning. If the set needs an eth (electric train heat) supply then a suitably fitted diesel loco is needed in the...

Interesting. There is a persistent rumour that Gladstone’s chimney is a wooden replacement, but making an exhibit out of toast is a new one on me ;) Tom

I believe the move was stopped at Holgate after a report of a lineside fire which later proved not to be related to the A3. The loco is now in the prep bay at the NRM while a solution is being sought as to how/when it is to continue on to...

The NRM is visited by 650,000 people every year which is more than double the passenger numbers of the biggest preserved railways. LT is much better being there than at home. It has returned for a brief stay in the past. Getting it out is...

L-T is indeed in dry storage, as you call it, in Yorkshire in the Main Hall of the NRM where it has been for the best part of the last 40 years. There doesn't seem to be any call by the FR for its return so it may stay for another 40 years. Peter

The lack of manual labour for the fireman would be a huge advantage, and to a lesser extent not having the fire hole doors open too. I guess the rest comes down to insulation and ventilation.

I never thought of that, but are there any other stoker fitted locos preserved here in the UK? There are some large ex-SAR locos (the GL Garratt in Manchester, the 19F in Glasgow, the GMAM in ? Quainton Road and maybe others) which may have been...

KF7 moved surprisingly easily once we had worked out where the joint for the stoker screw between engine and tender was. And what's more the loco together with Niteq (the NRM's battery shunting devise) were a snug fit on the turntable which saved...

And in other NRM news the 1845 built LNWR 2-2-2 "Columbine" returned to York yesterday and is temporally displayed on the turntable. A former resident of the old York Museum it has spent much of the last century in the city. In the 1990s it was...
