    Another reason for the long winded route might be for a driver(s) route refresher for another job in the next few months? Kill 2 birds with one stone. Get the 31s and VEP to us and the drivers involved get 6 months worth box ticking done.

    The depot exists north towards Strawberry Hill (and Twickenham Junction). However there is a crossover just north of the station that goes from the up line to the down line. The Up platform (I can't remember which number it is) is...

    Why would they need to go via Guildford? Even if they needed to go via Guildford, the simplest way to do it without a run round would surely be Strawberry Hill, Clapham Junction, East Croydon, Shalford? Edit: just saw the rest of your post.
